N, N-Dimethylbenzylamine is a colorless to slightly yellow transparent liquid with a purity of ≥98% or ≥99% and a water content of ≤0.05%. It is soluble in ethanol and ether but insoluble in water. At 25°C, it has a viscosity of approximately 90 mPa.s, a density of 0.897 g/cm³, a freezing point of -75°C, a boiling range of 178-184°C or 70-72°C (1.6 kPa), a refractive index of 1.5011 (25°C), a flash point (TCC) of 54°C, and a vapor pressure of 200 Pa (20°C). N, N-Dimethylbenzylamine can be obtained by the reaction of dimethylamine with benzyl chloride, followed by distillation, and should be kept away from strong oxidants, acids, acyl chlorides, and carbon dioxide. It is recommended to store it in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse, away from heat sources, and to avoid direct sunlight.

In its applications, N, N-Dimethylbenzylamine serves as a catalyst for the production of polyester-type polyurethane block foams, polyurethane rigid foams, adhesives, and coatings, primarily used in rigid foams. It imparts good initial fluidity and uniform cell structure to polyurethane foam, ensuring excellent adhesion between the foam and the substrate.

In the field of organic synthesis, N, N-Dimethylbenzylamine is employed as a catalyst for the dehydrohalogenation synthesis of organic pharmaceuticals and as an acid neutralizer. It is also used in the synthesis of quaternary ammonium salts and in the production of cationic surfactants with strong bactericidal properties. Additionally, it facilitates the curing of epoxy resins. It finds widespread use in epoxy resin electronic encapsulation materials, potting materials, as well as epoxy floor coatings, and marine paints as a curing agent.

Features and use

Chemical properties: colorless to light yellow flammable liquid. There is an ammonia odor. It is easy to dissolve in ethanol, and ether, and difficult in water.

BDMA in the polyurethane industry is a catalyst of polyester polyurethane block, polyurethane hard foam, and adhesive coatings. It is mainly used for hard foam, which can make polyurethane bubbles have good early liquidity and uniform bubbles, foam, and bubble body and There is good adhesion between the substrates.
