Dibutyltin Dilaurate (DBTDL) is an organic tin additive that can dissolve in organic solvents such as benzene, toluene, carbon tetrachloride, ethyl acetate, chloroform, acetone, and petroleum ether, as well as in all industrial plasticizers. It is insoluble in water. Commonly available high-boiling-point multi-purpose organic tin catalysts, such as Dibutyltin Dilaurate, are usually subjected to special liquefaction treatment. At room temperature, it appears as a light yellow or colorless oily liquid, turning into white crystals at low temperatures. It is employed in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics as an additive, providing excellent lubrication, transparency, and weather resistance. It exhibits good resistance to sulfide contamination.

In soft transparent products, it acts as a stabilizer, while in hard transparent products, it functions as a highly efficient lubricant. Additionally, it is utilized as a catalyst for the cross-linking reactions of acrylic ester rubber and carboxyl rubber, the synthesis of polyurethane foam plastics, and the catalysis of polyester synthesis. It also serves as a catalyst for room-temperature vulcanization of silicone rubber.

Alternative names include Dibutyltin Di(12-hydroxystearate), Dibutyltin Dilaurate, Dibutyltin Di-n-butylstannoate, Dibutyltin Bis(1-oxododecyl)oxide, Dibutyltin Di-n-butyltin dilaurate, Dibutyltin Dilaurate, and Dibutyltin Dioctanoate, among others. DY-12 (Dibutyltin Dilaurate) possesses excellent transparency, lubrication, and weather resistance, making it suitable for use in PVC soft transparent products. The finished products exhibit a glossy surface and good transparency without sulfurization contamination. Its outstanding light stability and transparency make it an ideal stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride, primarily used in soft and semi-soft PVC products such as transparent films, pipes, artificial leather, and as a polyurethane catalyst.

Regarding delayed catalysts, DY-12's rapid catalytic reaction in a system may lead to a shortened usage period, increasing the fluidity of the product and complicating construction. Delayed catalysts like DY-5508 effectively postpone the gel time of the product, providing a longer usage period for the system without affecting the later curing of the product. Therefore, they are widely used in polyurethane adhesives, coatings, elastomers, and other fields.

In the case of acute poisoning, Dibutyltin Dilaurate mainly manifests central nervous system symptoms, including headache, dizziness, fatigue, mental lassitude, and nausea. Prolonged exposure may cause neuro asthenic syndrome and result in contact dermatitis and allergic dermatitis on the skin.
